"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?"

Trainspotting.

That is like a typical Singaporean lifestyle huh. Sad case.

Get loan to enter Uni, get a decent office job with average income of a few K, go miserable once a year holiday, get loan to get a HDB flat, get loan to get a car, get loan for renovation, get loan for a car, get loan to have the kids, get loan for their education. Continue to work for the rest of the life to pay off debts

it's all in your head. people in your 'world' may all be like that, but that doesn't mean you have to be like them too. nobody can force you to, if you know what you wanna do with the little precious time you have on this Earth.

if so, then it's really not so sad.

i'm doing the Uni-office-job-once-a-yr-holiday thing too, but that doesn't mean i haven't been to Nepal, Tibet, the Himalayas, backpacking to small corners around Europe, play hard in world music festivals; that doesn't mean i don't lead a fulfilling life by my own standards.

the facade doesn't matter, as long as you are fighting hard for your dreams, enjoying what Life has to offer, whether good or bad, then perhaps Happiness will taste sweeter and easier to recognise when it comes.

Trainspotting is about choices. you can choose, and it is what you make of it that matters.
